face book

No hour of life is wasted that is spent in the saddle.  Sir Winston Churchill

Terena ThomasHooves for the Heart, LLC offers hippotherapy lessons and programs in Western Colorado.  In our program the use of equine therapy is designed to help heal children who suffer from emotional problems including Reactive Attachment Disorder and mental traumas by interacting with equines on the ground as well as utilizing their movement.

Expect to see children learning valuable life lessons through experiential learning while working with the horses.  As prey animals, equines are wonderful teachers, and our horses have been specifically trained to work with high-risk children. This program has been developed over twenty years and has been used as part of the healing for over 2,000 children with emotional disturbance.

Research conducted in conjunction with the University of Colorado shows there is a significant increase in self-esteem development in children that earn the experience of working with the horses.

Terena, the founder of Hooves for the Heart, LLC has been a registered riding instructor with NARHA for over ten years and is a Certified Equine Interaction Professional.  She has won numerous awards in Western and English disciplines.  Horses have long been a passion of hers and knowing how much comfort they brought to her growing up, it was only natural for her to create a program of equine intervention for the emotionally disturbed children living in foster care with her family.  Her love of horses and children creates an atmosphere of respect and honor for all living creatures.

At Hooves for the Heart, LLC, we offer private Lessons, Terena's riding program It's Not Just Horsing Around with Defiant Kids! - which you may purchase on this site and Events both on and off site. There are opportunities for Volunteers as well.
